Maltby Maland.&nbsp; summer pools es un programa anual autogestionado enfocado en prácticas artísticas y espaciales. A lo largo de una semana, trabajamos desde metodologías situadas y pedagogías multidireccionales, explorando cuestiones relacionadas con ecología, lenguaje y territorio. El proyecto nació de conversaciones sobre la necesidad de replantear formas de práctica colectiva. Cada año regresamos a Perthshire, donde tomamos prestada una palabra del entorno local que orienta&nbsp;los talleres. Durante una semana, nos reunimos para&nbsp;pensar, hacer&nbsp;y compartir conocimientos y habilidades. - Este año tomamos prestada la palabra gaélica dubhagan, que significa “la parte profunda de una poza, y también la pupila del ojo.” Junto a una poza profunda en el río Tay, nos adentramos en la turbidez y en las profundidades acuáticas de cuerpos humanos y fluviales, dentro y alrededor del cauce. Nos movimos entre ojos encarnados y desencarnados, entre distintas formas de ver, explorando territorios del cuerpo, umbrales acuáticos y modulaciones de luz. We explore ecologies, languages and our implicated bodies, through situated methodologies and a multidirectional approach to learning. The project was born out of conversations about a need and yearning to think through alternative models of collective practice. Each year we return to Perthshire where we borrow a word relating to its landscapes that frames the workshops of the programme. Together, over the week, we think, make and share knowledges and skills. - This year we borrowed from the Gaelic word dubhagan, meaning ‘the deep part of a pool, also the pupil of the eye.’Alongside a deep pool within the River Tay, we explored murkiness and the watery depths of human and riverbodies in and around the riverbed. We moved between dis/embodied eyes and forms of vision, playing with bodily territories, watery thresholds and modulations of light. Fotos por&nbsp;Ali Haji. clay bodies, displaced soils parte de la historia material de PARKS y de las transformaciones de su suelo; sitio de un antiguo humedal y frente al cual se encontraba la Müllverbrennungsanlage Bullerdeich, la primera planta incineradora de residuos puesta en funcionamiento en Alemania y en Europa continental. Los residuos y partículas emitidos durante la incineración caían y se acumulaban en los terrenos circundantes; parte de los residuos generados por este proceso también volvía a entrar en circulación como materia constructiva, utilizándose, entre otros usos, para producir morteros empleados en edificios de la zona. El proyecto atiende a estas relaciones entre suelo, residuo y arquitectura: a cómo una materia es extraída, desplazada, quemada, depositada y reincorporada al entorno construido. Lo que parece desaparecer reaparece bajo otra forma y lo que pertenece al suelo puede terminar formando parte de un muro, una junta o una cubierta. Al no poder trabajar directamente con la tierra de PARKS, recurrimos a arcilla comercial: una tierra procedente de otro lugar, separada de su contexto geológico y convertida, mediante procesos de extracción, refinamiento y distribución, en una materia estandarizada capaz de circular. El proyecto trabaja desde esta distancia: desde la imposibilidad de acceder al suelo que pisamos y desde la presencia de otra tierra que ha llegado hasta allí a través de circuitos industriales y comerciales. Durante un taller colectivo, les participantes moldearon piezas de arcilla utilizando sus piernas, caderas, hombros y espaldas como superficies de conformado. El proceso retoma la técnica Mönche und Nonne (monje y monja), utilizada históricamente en Hamburgo para fabricar tejas moldeando la arcilla sobre el muslo. El cuerpo funciona aquí como molde, medida y herramienta: una materia producida para ser uniforme adquiere diferencias a través del contacto con cuerpos concretos. La teja prolonga este recorrido material y espacial. La arcilla procede del suelo y, una vez extraída, moldeada y cocida, asciende hasta la cubierta. Allí se convierte en una superficie que conduce el agua y protege de la lluvia, una función que resuena, sin pretender restituirlo, con el antiguo humedal sobre el que se encuentra PARKS. The site is located on a former wetland and opposite the Müllverbrennungsanlage Bullerdeich, the first waste incineration plant to operate in Germany and continental Europe. Residues and particles released during incineration fell and accumulated on the surrounding ground; some of the waste generated through this process also re-entered circulation as construction material and was used, among other things, to produce mortar for buildings in the area. The process draws on the Mönche und Nonne (monk and nun) technique, historically used in Hamburg to make roof tiles by shaping clay over the thigh. Here, the body acts as mould, measure and tool: a material produced to be uniform takes on differences through contact with specific bodies. The roof tile continues this movement from ground to architecture. Clay comes from the ground and, once extracted, shaped and fired, rises to the roof. Becas de Investigación Artística Barcelona Crea para residentes. Un proyecto que amasa los suelos que cargamos, los suelos que nos cargan, y los duelos que nos ayudan a navegar sus porosidades. Esta exploración inyecta ideas de continuidad y ciclos en dualidades y binarismos como vida-muerte, ausencia-presencia y suelo-cielo, desplazándose de la oposición hacia la relación.&nbsp; El proyecto aborda el duelo en múltiples escalas, reconociendo que el dolor trasciende lo individual y se manifiesta en dimensiones colectivas, locales y globales. Considera el duelo personal como la experiencia de una ausencia presente y la búsqueda de sentido a través de rituales y memorias tanto individuales como colectivas. Reflexiona sobre los duelos incrustados en el imaginario de países marcados por el conflicto armado, la violencia y represión estatal, el desplazamiento forzado y el desmantelamiento intencionado de las estructuras sociales y cotidianas - realidades que además complican la idea de retorno para quienes están lejos. Contempla también el duelo por el desarraigo provocado por migraciones económicas, políticas o ambientales; por ese territorio físico que resguarda nuestras memorias personales y colectivas. Piensa el duelo de la Tierra en un sentido amplio, vinculado a la emergencia climática y a los cambios radicales que esta crisis conlleva. Aquí, el duelo no se refiere únicamente a la pérdida humana, sino también a la transformación acelerada de los ecosistemas, la ruptura de equilibrios naturales y la modificación de paisajes que han sostenido tanto la vida humana como la más-que-humana. Este duelo se vive a diario en los cambios del clima, en los patrones agrícolas, en el acceso al agua y en la constante incertidumbre sobre el porvenir. Conceptualmente, el proyecto se arraiga en la expresión coloquial del campo&nbsp;nicaragüense “sembrar muertos”, utilizada para referirse a enterrar a los difuntos. Es una frase cargada de sentido sobre la conexión entre muerte, tierra y ritual, especialmente en contextos rurales. La segunda base del proyecto es la investigación de Kevin Gonzales Hodgson sobre la iconografía de urnas funerarias Chorotega y Nicarao en Villa Tiscapa, Managua. Este sitio, con su relieve escarpado y fertilidad variable de sus suelos, forma parte de la cuenca volcánica del graben de Managua. Está impregnado de una historia funeraria prehispánica que entiende la muerte como parte de un ciclo vital continuo, en un paisaje sujeto a un cambio ambiental constante: terremotos, erupciones, tormentas y sequías. La metodología de vasijas para sembrar duelo se despliega en varias fases, integrando aproximaciones teóricas y prácticas, exploraciones territoriales y talleres colectivos. El proceso se sustenta en la investigación experimental y la creación colectiva, utilizando la cerámica como medio para explorar la relación entre duelo, territorio y memoria. A través de una investigación material y simbólica realizada en Nicaragua y Barcelona, el proyecto busca conectar tradiciones precoloniales con los desafíos contemporáneos de la pérdida y la regeneración. A&nbsp; project that kneads the soils we carry, the soils that carry us, and the grief processes that help us navigate their porosities. This exploration injects ideas of continuity and cycles into dualities and binaries such as life-death, absence-presence, and earth-sky, shifting from opposition toward relation. The project addresses grief at multiple scales, recognising that pain transcends the individual and manifests in collective, local, and global dimensions. It considers personal grief as the experience of a present absence and the search for meaning through rituals and memories, both individual and collective. It reflects on the grief embedded in the imaginary of countries marked by armed conflict, state violence and repression, forced displacement, and the intentional dismantling of social and everyday structures - realities that also complicate the idea of return for those far from home. It also contemplates the grief of uprooting caused by economic, political, or environmental migrations; grief for that physical territory that shelters our personal and collective memories. It thinks through the grief of the Earth in a broad sense, linked to the climate emergency and the radical changes this crisis entails. Here, grief does not refer only to human loss, but also to the accelerated transformation of ecosystems, the rupture of natural balances, and the alteration of landscapes that have sustained both human and more-than-human life. This grief is lived daily in the shifts of climate, in agricultural patterns, in access to water, and in the constant uncertainty about what lies ahead. Conceptually, the project is rooted in the colloquial rural nicaraguan expression “to sow the dead”, used to refer to burying the deceased. It is a phrase laden with meaning about the connection between death, earth, and ritual, especially in rural contexts. The second foundation of the project is Kevin Gonzales Hodgson’s research on the iconography of Chorotega and Nicarao funerary urns in Villa Tiscapa, Managua. This site, with its rugged relief and variable soil fertility, is part of the volcanic basin of the Managua graben. Eloise Maltby Maland.&nbsp; summer pools es un programa anual autogestionado enfocado en prácticas artísticas y espaciales. A lo largo de una semana, trabajamos desde metodologías situadas y pedagogías multidireccionales, explorando cuestiones relacionadas con ecología, lenguaje y territorio. El proyecto nació de conversaciones sobre la necesidad de replantear formas de práctica colectiva. Cada año regresamos a Perthshire, donde tomamos prestada una palabra del entorno local que orienta los talleres. Durante una semana, nos reunimos para&nbsp;pensar, hacer&nbsp;y compartir conocimientos y habilidades. - En esta edición prestamos la palabra gaélica dòirneag, que significa ‘una piedra redonda que cabe en la mano’, para reflexionar sobre las temporalidades del cuerpo y la roca. Desde nuestra posición sobre una línea de roca ígnea formada hace más de 300 millones de años, exploramos cuatro escalas de piedra presentes en el territorio, con enfoques conceptuales, contextuales, sensoriales y materiales: &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Sobre el dique, leímos juntes teoría, poesía, diccionarios científicos, entradas de blogs y correos electrónicos sobre rocas y el tiempo. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Entre los muros, reflexionamos sobre la reorganizaciónde fragmentos en estructuras de piedra construidas por humanos, yel parcelamiento de la tierra como forma de protección y división. We explore ecologies, languages and our implicated bodies, through situated methodologies and a multidirectional approach to learning. The project was born out of conversations about a need and yearning to think through alternative models of collective practice. Each year we return to Perthshire where we borrow a word relating to its landscapes that frames the workshops of the programme. Together, over the week, we think, make and share knowledges and skills. - In this edition we borrowed from the gaelic word dòirneag, meaning 'a round stone that fills the hand when held', thinking through temporalities of the body and the rock. Delving into our position on a line of igneous bedrock formed over 300 million years ago, we approached the site through &nbsp;four scales of stone across the landscape, with conceptual, contextual, sensorial, and material approaches in relation to the site: &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; On the dyke, where we read together theory, poetry, scientific dictionaries, blog entries and emails on rocks and time. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Between the walls, thinking through rearrangement of fragments, human-made stone structures, parceling of land as protection and division. We pieced together maps, documents and notes around the site and found stone remains of an XII century abbey. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;With the pebbles, where we found our particular dòirneags, followed by a guided meditation and an exercise where we named the stones from affective/careful observation. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; With the clay, collecting and processing local mudstone, accumulated clay settled along the river over time. colaboración con Eloise Maltby Maland.&nbsp; summer pools es un programa anual autogestionado enfocado en prácticas artísticas y espaciales. A lo largo de una semana, trabajamos desde metodologías situadas y pedagogías multidireccionales, explorando cuestiones relacionadas con ecología, lenguaje y territorio. El proyecto nació de conversaciones sobre la necesidad de replantear formas de práctica colectiva. Cada año regresamos a Perthshire, donde tomamos prestada una palabra del entorno local que orienta los talleres. Durante una semana, nos reunimos para&nbsp;pensar, hacer&nbsp;y compartir conocimientos y habilidades. - La primera iteración del programa tuvo lugar en Perthshire, Escocia. Partimos de la palabra gaélica taghairm, que significa “ruido; eco; tipo de adivinación al escuchar el ruido de las cascadas”, y desde ahí exploramos el ruido, el silencio, la voz y la escucha junto a las intensas corrientes del río Tay a través de diferentes formatos con talleres de dibujo, escritura, lectura, caminata, mapeo, y movimiento. We explore ecologies, languages and our implicated bodies, through situated methodologies and a multidirectional approach to learning. summer pools was born out of conversations about a need and yearning to think through alternative models of collective practice. Each year we return to Perthshire where we borrow a word relating to its landscapes that frames the workshops of the programme. Fiesta del Árbol es una invitación a explorar las comunidades multiespecies de Barcelona a través de un recorrido entre los árboles de la ciudad. Tuvo lugar el 30 de abril de 2023, coincidiendo con el 124 aniversario de la primera Fiesta del Árbol en Barcelona, de donde toma su nombre. Esta fue organizada por un ingeniero forestal que buscaba reconocer la importancia de los árboles en un país donde los bosques estaban siendo destruidos. En esa ocasión, niñes y profesores se reunieron en el Parque de la Ciutadella para celebrar los árboles de la ciudad. Les participantes recorrieron los árboles del Parc de la Ciutadella y el Parc de l’Estació del Nord guiades por un mapa y un libro que recoge sus historias —relatos íntimos, mitologías y relaciones— junto a invitaciones para interactuar con cada árbol. La última parada terminaba en una fiesta bajo un espiral de tilos. El proyecto fue parte de las actividades de Model+ para Model. Fiesta del Árbol is an invitation to explore Barcelona's multi-species communities through a route among the city's trees. It took place on the 30th of April 2023, on the 124th anniversary of the first ‘Fiesta del Árbol’ in Barcelona, from which it borrows its name. The latter was organised by a forest engineer who believed in recognising the importance of trees in a country where forests were widely being destroyed. For this, children and teachers gathered together in Parc de la Ciutadella to celebrate the trees of the city. The participants were guided around the trees of Parc de la Ciutadella and Parc de l’Estació del Nord through a map and a book that tells their histories, intimate stories, mythologies and relationships, with invitations to interact with each tree. At the last stop, a party awaited under a spiral of linden trees.&nbsp; The project was part of the Model+ activities for Model. El proyecto toma el nombre del municipio como punto de partida para tejer conceptos sobre la hospitalidad y la frontera, con temas relacionados al nombre y el registro, la enfermedad y el cuidado, así como la migración. La propuesta se materializa en una secuencia de preguntas pintadas en el bordillo de la acera. Al escribirse en espacio entre la acera y la calle, interactúan de manera accidental con el inmobiliario público, la señalética y la actividad de la calle. L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Catalonia, Spain | 2021 El Bordillo del Hospitalet is a public space intervention proposal sited along the boundry that divides L’Hospitalet de Llobregat and Barcelona in Catalonia. The project takes the name of the municipality as a point of depature to weave concepts of hospitality and the border, with themes related to naming and registering, illness and care, as well as migration.&nbsp; The proposal is materialised through a series of questions painted on the curb. As inscriptions on the space between the pavement and the street, they interact in an accidental way with the street furniture, signage and activity. [...] Is hospitality offered to people passing through? And to those who stay? Who offers it? To whom is it offered? Is hospitality unconditional? El término comúnmente se traduce al inglés como “People” (gente), pero simultaneamente se refiere a distintas escalas de lugar - comunidad, pueblo, cuidad pequeña, tierra colectiva y nación. Es un término móvil (relacionado con las personas) y situado en lo local (relacionado al territorio físico). Los lemas estudiados tienen sus propias historias complejas, genealogías nacionales y afiliaciones idiológicas: El Pueblo Unido Jamás Será Vencido y Sólo el Pueblo Salva al Pueblo.&nbsp;Esto es explorado a través de los posibles significados de El Pueblo y sus resonancias culturales, construcciones linguísticas, así como su activación sonora y gráfica.&nbsp; Esta investigación del significado de El Pueblo desde una perspectiva espacial plantea preguntas sobre quién y dónde se encuentra El Pueblo, y reflexiona sobre la manera en que esto informa su conceptualización en la cultura política contemporánea en Nicaragua. &nbsp; -El ensayo fue realizado en inglés como trabajo de final de grado para el curso de Arquitectura y Estudios Interdisciplinarios en UCL, Universidad de Londres. London, United Kingdom | 2019 This research explores the concept of El Pueblo in two slogans used in the ongoing Nicaraguan crisis. The term is commonly translated into English as “People”, yet can simultaneously refer to different scales of “Place” - village, town, city, collective lands and nation. It is both mobile (related to people) and embedded in the local (related to the physical place). The slogans studied each have their own complex histories, national genealogies and ideological affiliations: El Pueblo Unido Jamás Será Vencido often translated into English to mean “The People United Will Never Be Defeated”, and Sólo El Pueblo Salva al Pueblo, similarly translated as “Only the People Save the People”. This was researched by looking at the possible meanings of El Pueblo interpreted through their contextual resonances, linguistic constructions, and their sonic and graphic performances. This particular research study into the meaning of El Pueblo through a spatial lens, raises questions about who and where is El Pueblo, and how this inform its conceptualisation in contemporary Nicaraguan political culture. - The essay was written in English as a dissertation for the Architecture and Interdisciplinary Studies course at UCL. The translation of Pueblo was used as a the main pivot around which the multiple meanings of the words could be distilled when transferred from one language to another.
